About Us

OUR STORY

Philip’s Bookshop was started in 1989 by husband and wife Philip and Catherine O’Flynn in Chapel Lane, Mallow selling general books and cards. We moved to 34 Bank Place in 1991. This move to a bigger two story premises on the main street was a turning point for the business. At this stage the shop started selling school books and stationery and was the only book shop in the area for many years. In 2008 our daughter June started to work in the business and this coincided with an opportunity to move to a lager premises with bigger square footage and no steps at 36 Bank place. We also added school uniforms to the range of products. In order to avoid excessive seasonality of sales we have diversified the business and introduced new lines in office stationery, gift stationery, puppets and games.
In Feburary 2015 we became a Ticketmaster outlet.
We launched a new “Love from Cork” area in October 2015 which has art and craft produced by over 20 artists and craft people from Cork.

In April 2019 we made what we hope is our final move to 22 West End, Main Street.  This 5000 sq ft premises was previously owned by Dunnes Stores and had been left vacant for over 12 years.  We are delighted with our new massive space and shop front and look forward to serving the community for many years to come.

Philip’s Bookshop takes customer services seriously and whether it is a special order for a general book or helping you get everything you need for school we pride ourselves in being there with an extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful staff.
